Youth Night – February
Rockford Youth Night is an event to get Rockford Middle School students together and interact with police officers from several area agencies. Youth Night is held at MVP Sports Complex in Rockford. Activities at Youth Night include: dodgeball, basketball, swimming, football, and a movie. This event allows students an opportunity to have positive interactions with police officers from surrounding agencies.

Metro High School Police Academy – June
Established in 1996, the Metro High School Police Academy is made up of 7 police departments that work together to form a partner-ship with area schools, service organizations and local law enforcement training academies. This very unique program offers interested high school juniors and seniors a hands-on look at law enforcement. Through this experience students can decide if law enforcement is the right career choice for them. The academy lays a solid foundation for students that graduate and go into law enforcement. D.A.R.E. Golf Outing – June
The Annual Rockford D.A.R.E. Golf Outing is a fundraiser held at Boulder Creek Golf Club in June. Proceeds from the golf outing are used to purchase the needed materials for the D.A.R.E. Program. The golf outing has grown to include over 144 golfers and raises over $10,000.00 annually. Participants in the outing are sure to have a great time. If you are interested in participating as a sponsor or playing in the outing please contact the Rockford Department of Public Safety at (616) 866-9557.

Rockford Area Kids Triathlon – July
This event is for kids of all ages up to 17 years old. The event is usually held in July at the Rockford High School. The triathlon gives the kids a chance to get in shape and have some friendly competition for trophies and metals. National Night Out – August
National Night Out is a national crime prevention celebration held on the second Tuesday in August. The NNO celebration gives all of the neighborhood watch groups throughout the City of Rockford a chance to assemble and share crime prevention tips. The Rockford NNO celebration takes place in downtown Rockford. Officers from the Rockford Department of Public Safety , Michigan State Police- Rockford Post, and the Kent County Sheriff’s Department organize a variety of activities for children to participate in. Please come out and join us.

Shop with a Cop – December
Shop with a Cop is an annual event held at the Rockford Meijer. The partnership between the Rockford Department of Public Safety and Meijer gives 20 children who are in need of winter clothing a chance to go shopping with a Rockford Public Safety Officer. Children are nominated by teachers and community members. The selected children get the change to shop with an officer for essential winter clothing. They also get to meet with Santa Claus and have their photo taken. If you would like to nominate a child or family please contact the Rockford Department of Public Safety at (616) 866-9557.
