The City of Rockford is Seeking a New City Manager

May 18, 2017

The City of Rockford is seeking a new City Manager. Its location couldn’t be better.  In the midst of the fastest growing, most economically vibrant region in the state, Rockford, Michigan, sits on the banks of the Rogue River 30 minutes from the incomparable shoreline of Lake Michigan or 15 minutes from the lights and energy of Grand Rapids.  Additional information at

A dynamic and healthy community, Rockford is a full-service city of 6,100 residents chartered as a council-manager form of government.  An involved, civic-minded population and a diverse business community are accustomed to partnering with city hall to assure the community’s stability and growth.   Together employees, elected officials and community stakeholders set the recruitment standards for Rockford’s next city manager, only it’s third in nearly 35 years.

While only a short drive to urban amenities and a vigorous labor market, Rockford is a self-contained preferred destination of its own.  A unique, fully occupied downtown, a nationally recognized school system and a distinctive personality have kept this family-friendly small town growing even during Michigan’s great recession.

A 2016-2017 General Fund Budget of $3.2 million and Enterprise funds of another $3.2 million support 40 full- and part-time employees who function in an interdependent and supportive culture.

Only creative, energetic and approachable professionals with a strategic mind-set and forward focus will be considered for this exceptional opportunity.   Rockford will offer a competitive compensation package including a salary within the range of $97,000 to $105,000 depending on the qualifications and experience of its next executive.
