PUBLIC HEARING NOTICE ON FISCAL YEAR 2017-2018 ANNUAL BUDGET AND AN ADDITIONAL PROPERTY TAX MILLAGE LEVY
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the Rockford City Council will hold a public hearing on Monday, May 22, 2017, at 7:00 p.m. in the Council Chambers of City Hall at 7 S. Monroe Street in the City. The purpose of the public hearing is to discuss (a) the proposed City Fiscal Year 2017-2018 Annual Budget and (b) the proposed levy of an additional 2 mills ad valorem property tax increasing the levy from the current levy of 10.9 mills to 12.9 mills to be levied on July 1, 2017. The City Council is also considering at the same time the adoption of new water and sanitary sewer rates and charges.
A copy of the proposed Fiscal Year 2017-2018 Annual Budget is available for public inspection at the office of the City Clerk at City Hall during the hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
If approved the proposed additional 2 mills will increase operating revenues from ad valorem property taxes 19.61% over such revenues generated by levies permitted without a hearing. If the proposed additional millage rate is not approved the operating revenue will increase by 2.14% over the preceding year’s operating revenue.
THE PROPERTY TAX MILLAGE RATE PROPOSED TO BE LEVIED TO SUPPORT THE PROPOSED BUDGET WILL BE SUBJECT OF THIS HEARING.
The City has complete authority to establish the number of mills to be levied from within its authorized millage rate.
Public comments, either oral or written, are welcome at the public hearing. Handicapped persons needing assistance or aid should contact the office of City Clerk during regular business hours of the City at least forty-eight hours before the hearing.
